There’s so much to consider when buying headphones

You need our Over Ear headphones buyers guide 2023 to point you in the right direction, ear buds are great, they’re small, unintrusive, easy to carry and provide a decent sound considering the size.But ever now and then you just want to immerse yourself in sound and block out the world. You need a set of headphones. Lets see what you need to consider before throwing down your hard earn cash on some new cans.

Determine Your Usage and Needs:

Consider your specific usage scenarios and needs for over-ear headphones. Are you using them for music enjoyment, gaming, professional audio work, or noise isolation during travel? Identifying your primary use case will help you narrow down the features and characteristics you require.

Sound Quality:

For me this is the deal breaker, i could find some wireless, super light tricked out headphones but if the sound quality makes me want to rip off my own ears then it’s a hard no from me. Look for headphones that deliver clear, well-balanced sound across different frequencies. Pay attention to aspects like clarity, detail, bass response, and overall tonal balance. If possible, try listening to the headphones beforehand to assess the sound signature that suits your preferences. You also need to consider what kind of music you listen to mainly, ie if you’re only listening to classical music then you don’t really need kick ass bass.

Open-back or Closed-back Design:

Determine whether you prefer open-back or closed-back headphones. Open-back headphones provide a more natural and spacious soundstage but tend to leak sound and offer minimal noise isolation. Closed-back headphones, on the other hand, offer better noise isolation and can have a more impactful bass response, but their soundstage may be narrower.This also would depend on where you’re listening, if you’re fully immersed in your favourite tunes make sure you’re safe.

Comfort and Fit:

Comfort is crucial, especially if you plan on using the headphones for extended periods. Look for well-padded ear cups and headbands, adjustable sizing, and a weight that feels comfortable on your head. Consider the materials used and the overall build quality to ensure durability and long-term comfort.

Noise Isolation and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC):

If you need headphones for noisy environments or travel, consider models with good passive noise isolation or active noise cancellation (ANC). ANC headphones use microphones to detect external noise and generate anti-noise to cancel it out, providing a quieter listening experience. But a word of warning, my personal experience of this is ok but i know people that don’t like the sensation of ANC, possibly the same way not everyone can use a VR headset.

Decide whether you prefer wired or wireless headphones. Wired headphones often provide higher audio quality and reliability, while wireless headphones offer convenience and freedom of movement. Wireless headphones use Bluetooth technology, so check for compatibility with your devices and the range and stability of the wireless connection.

Additionally, check if the headphones have convenient features like built-in microphones or compatibility with voice assistants.

New Playstation Handheld Console Its Confirmed!!

We can now conform that Sony have said they are working on a new handheld games console Project Q’ is in development now. Early info is saying that it will be 1080p and run at 60fps so thats going to be just silky for football and shooters where frame rate is vital.

Whats it Like?

As for the console’s physical features, early prototypes show the console will look a lot like a PlayStation 5 controller, but with a massive 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. The device sports adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and will include what you would come to expect from a handheld – Volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc.

But Wait…..

One major issue is that if rumours are true, you already need a ps5 to run the thing which is far from ideal but who knows this is brand new info so I’m sure time will tell. While the PS5 allows players to stream new games via the cloud over PS Plus Premium, there seems to be no plans to allow PlayStation Portal owners to stream any PS5 games that aren’t already installed on their home console. That positions the PlayStation Portal as more of a PS5 accessory rather than a full-blown, standalone device.

1 Bose Soundbar 600

Bose is my go to brand, i love bose for the sound fullness if nothing else. This one comes in a penny under our limit and i love it, at has dolby atmos ( amazing when you have an atmos source). has 5 internal speakers, built in alexa and supports apple air play, spotify connect an chromecast and HDMI eARC input that’s essential to getting Dolby Atmos soundtracks on board in the first place, One major thumbs down is the fact that it dosn’t come with an external subwoofer so the bass is gutless. So that means if you want the bass for action movies or rave nights you’re gonna have to find another £300 for the sub! bit of a downer that for me.

2.Samsung Q800A

My First ever step into home cinema was a Samsung, spent days burying wires under carpets! but i loved it and the Q800A relives some of that love. This feature packed model will not disappoint. Again, you can get your hands on one for just under £500

Sonos was one of the first home audio systems that enabled you to build your own multi room system at your own pace, e.g you didnt need a hub or amps, receiver etc you could add a room at a time , but also with the quality of sound. So any sound bar made by sonus in my book has to be one this list. This one comes in nicely under budget at around £420 and has some nice features, lets take a look.
