Meta Quest 3 Main Features and Do I Need One?

Ok, most probably all of us here have had at least a quick dabble of a V.R headset and either love it and bought one or ran to the toilet and threw up coz of the motion sickness! I love VR gaming and was pretty excited to hear Meta have brought out a new headset. So I asked what are Meta quest 3 main features, how much is it and do I need one?

Firstly, What Is It?

For those totally new to VR gaming check out my post explaining the different set ups available here

Vr gaming has been around for a while now and has come a long way, you may think you need a Pc that is powerful enough to make you a bitcoin millionaire and costs as much as a Bentley, but you’d be wrong with the Quest series, as one of the Meta Quest 3 main features (same for the Quest2 ) is you can set it up without a pc!!

You don’t even need an Aldi special laptop to set up your shiny new quest 3 headset as it has its own Operating system all you need is a facebook account. Now don’t worry if you don’t want to get pulled into the world of facebook posting, you can just create an account, note the login and away you go ( no need for endless pictures of your lunch, or random messages that you are fuming with no extra explanation!)

Meta Quest 3 Main Features

  • Breakthrough mixed & virtual reality
  • Twice the GPU power of Quest 2
  • 4K+ Infinite Display fills your field of view
  • Over 500 titles available
  • Backwards compatible with Meta Quest catalogue
  • Integrated speakers with 3D Spatial Audio
  • Direct Touch hand tracking & Tru touch haptic feedback
  • 2 year guarantee

One thing I love about my Quest is that if I don’t like a game for whatever reason i can simply use the app to request a refund as long as I have’t owned the game for longer that 2 weeks or played it for more than 2 hours

Thy’ve Made it Smaller

Even though its coming in slightly heavier than the Quest 2 ( but a great deal lighter that the Quest Pro), they have made the overall unit smaller that the quest 2 which reduce player fatigue, not that you’ll get that fatigued after playing for just over 2 hours before the battery dies on you!!

As you can see, there’s no difference in the refresh rate, there’s new chipset, much more powerful RAM, bigger field of view and 2 lcd displays, but on the down side the battery life is now even worse than the quest 2 which was shite to start with. Which no doubt will force you into buying a new head strap with a built in battery, or an add on battery which made my neck hurt.

one of my major gripes with tech is battery life, they must spend months coming up with new tech but 20 minutes looking into the battery life, it’s a joke.

Price

The Meta Quest 3 now comes in 2 versions, Technically they are identical apart from one thing, the storage size.

128gb is around £479

512gb is £612 which seems a lot but you’re getting 4 times the storage and the game sizes are getting bigger and bigger.

Meta Quest+ subscription

Get two handpicked titles every month. 6-month trial included with purchase of 512 GB model.

So if you intend to make this your primary gaming platform, it might be worth while going for the 512gb version. If you only intend to play it once a week or so and just have a few games installed, then the 128gb will suffice.

If you buy one before 27th Jan 2024 in the uk you will get a free game with your purchase…Asgards Wrath 2 take a look at the trailer for that game on youtube here

Also good news is that if you’re not sold on the quest 3 they are going to drop the price for the Quest 2 so happy days.

Conclusion And Do You Need One?

It all depends on how much you’re going to use this as a gaming platform, yes it has other uses as in you can go on the internet with it and it has commercial uses, but 9 out of 10 of these will be used for gaming, so if it will be your main go to for gaming, then yes you need one, if you’re a gamer and need something different, then yes you need one. If its just for curiosity and playing once a month then stick with your Quest 2. Or try something completely different with some A.R Glasses like the ones from Xreal, read my short post on them here
